Banana Tree on Tortolla Street

While biking one morning in San Diego, I spotted this spectacular banana tree with, what I later learned, is called a ‘florescence.’  Hanging from the palm frond was a magnificent bud, about a foot long in gorgeous purples and blues. A couple of the petals were pulling away and starting to curl back creating a canopy of red above the massive bud. The stem holding the bud was thick and sensuous, adding to the powerful beauty of the image.
